Paul McIntyre

Paul’s careers have varied, from running an ironing service to caring for adults with learning disabilities. He gave it all up to complete a two-year creative writing course at Bristol University, subsidizing himself by winning the occasional TV quiz show.

Paul was co-winner of the Bristol Festival of Literature Flash Fiction Prize and has been longlisted for both the Bristol and Bath short story awards. His short fiction has also featured on BBC radio.

His new novel, Dead of Night, is a psychological crime story set in California. An honest police detective’s teenage daughter is snared by a trafficking ring and left for dead. Three years later, members of the ring are being slain one by one on his policing patch. He discovers that their murderer is closer to home than he ever imagined. But will he put his love of justice to one side and turn the killer in?

The idea was inspired by the true case of 19th-century French detective Robert Ledru, who was prone to carrying out serious misdeeds while he was sleepwalking.
