Writing - a step out of my world.

I'd been thinking about writing for a while but it was so different to my day job that it seemed a huge leap into unchartered waters. That changed when I attended the funeral of the guy in the flat below me and a friend of his read out some of his writing. I went home and put pen to paper, inspired by the thought that the writing lives on even after the person has gone.

My first novel is nearing the end of the first draft. It is about a woman who finds herself single after her marriage suddenly ends. Embarking on a mission to find the perfect man, Liz navigates the highs and lows of dating, which often takes her into comical situations. Just as life is looking good, sudden illness in the family causes her to re-examine her estrangement and look at her past with new eyes. The overriding theme of my novel is the need for family and a sense of belonging.
